Amazon Fire TV & Firestick: what works, and how to check your device

First, if you have one of Amazon's newest Fire TV Sticks and BZZR won't install — this is a known issue and we are working quickly to update compatibility.

In the meantime, most Fire TV devices already work great with BZZR, and there are easy ways to watch on your TV right now. Here's the background, a 15-second check to see what you have, and your options while we finish the update.

The quick version

Fire TV devices running Fire OS (Amazon's long-standing, Android-based system) → BZZR works today.
Fire TV Sticks running Vega OS (Amazon's new system, launched in late 2025) → BZZR isn't available yet — Vega OS works differently from every earlier Firestick, and we're expediting a compatible version (release date coming shortly).

Amazon doesn't label which system a device uses on the box or product page, which is why this catches so many people out. The 15-second check below settles it.

Check which system your Fire TV runs (the definitive test)

On your Fire TV device:

Go to Settings
Open My Fire TV (on a Fire TV smart TV this is called Device & Software)
Select About
Look at the Software Version (lower-right)

If it says "Fire OS" followed by a number like 7, 8, or 14 → you're on Fire OS, and BZZR works.
If it says "OS" and the version number starts with a 1 (for example, 1.1) → that's Vega OS, and BZZR isn't available on it.

The confusing part: there are two different "Fire TV Stick HD" models

Amazon released a new Firestick under the exact same name as an older one, but on the new operating system. This is the single biggest source of mix-ups:

Fire TV Stick HD (2024) — works. Wi‑Fi 5, squared corners on the stick, and no "Fire TV" text printed on the stick.
Fire TV Stick HD (2026) — Vega OS, does not work. Wi‑Fi 6, rounded corners, and "Fire TV" printed on the stick.

A couple of other quick tells for Vega OS models to steer clear of:

Anything with "Select" in the name (like the Fire TV Stick 4K Select) runs Vega OS.
A "HD" model that also advertises Wi‑Fi 6 is the Vega version.

Good news if your Firestick already works: Amazon is not switching existing devices over to Vega OS. So if BZZR is running on your current Firestick today, it will keep working.

Fire TV devices that work with BZZR

Any Fire TV running Fire OS, including:

Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Stick 4K Plus
Fire TV Cube
Fire TV Stick HD (the 2024 Wi‑Fi 5 model)
Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick Lite (older models)
Fire TV smart TVs with Fire TV built-in (Hisense, TCL, and others — these stay on Fire OS)

Fire TV Sticks that don't work with BZZR yet (Vega OS)

Fire TV Stick 4K Select (2025)
Fire TV Stick HD, the 2026 Wi‑Fi 6 model

We know these newer sticks are a real pain point, and we're on it — a BZZR version built for Vega OS is being expedited, and we'll post a release date shortly. Amazon has said future Fire TV Sticks will also run Vega OS, so we're making sure BZZR is ready for them.

I have a Vega OS Firestick — how can I watch right now?

While we finish the Vega OS version, you've got plenty of other ways to catch the game:

On your phone or tablet — the BZZR app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
On the web — sign in at https://bzzr.com on any computer.
On another TV device — Apple TV, Google TV, or a Fire TV that runs Fire OS all work. See Watch on TV.

My Fire TV runs Fire OS, but I can't find the BZZR app

If your device is on Fire OS (per the check above) but BZZR isn't showing up when you search on the Firestick itself, here's the trick that's been working best for folks:

Install it from your phone or computer instead of searching on the TV. As long as your phone/computer is signed into the same Amazon account as your Fire TV:

Open the Amazon Shopping app on your phone (or go to amazon.com in a browser) and search BZZR — or go straight to the BZZR app page: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H8DPXR4J
On the app's page, tap Get / Download, and choose your Fire TV under Deliver to.
Amazon installs BZZR onto your Firestick for you — no searching on the TV needed. Open it on your Fire TV and sign in.

If you'd rather keep trying on the Firestick itself:

Search and press Enter rather than relying on the auto-complete suggestions — BZZR sometimes doesn't surface in auto-complete right away but appears once you complete the search.
Give it a little time. The app rolls out through the store and can take a few hours to appear in search.
Make sure your Fire TV software is up to date, then restart the device and search again.

One important note: these steps only work on Fire OS devices. If you're on a Vega OS Firestick (see the check above), the app won't appear no matter how you search or where you search from — that's the compatibility gap we're expediting a fix for, not a search glitch.
